FROM COVID TO COLLEGE
Brianna Stid, will be a new addition to the Shawnee State University’s golf team.
Discovering Golf in Unlikely Times Bree’s introduction to golf came during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. With traditional activities on hold, her father suggested she take up the sport. “Since there’s nothing better to do, might as well start golfing,” he said. This casual suggestion turned into a passion, and over the past four years, Stid has dedicated herself to mastering the game.
A Memorable Birdie and Celebrations
One of Stid’s most memorable moments on the course happened during a match when she scored her first birdie on a par 4. The excitement of the achievement was amplified by her teammate, who enthusiastically celebrated with her.
Favorite Course: Snow Snake in Michigan
Among the various courses she has played, Snow Snake in Michigan stands out as her favorite. Known for its picturesque landscape and challenging layout, the course has left a lasting impression on her.
Rituals and Superstitions
Pre-match routine are meticulously planned. She begins with chipping from various spots around the green. This is followed by 10 minutes of putting. Additionally, she has a unique superstition—snacking on Cheez-its during each match.
Golf’s Impact: Patience and Success
Golf has not only been a sport for Stid but also a teacher of life lessons. It has instilled in her a deep sense of patience and has contributed significantly to her personal growth and success. “Golf has made me a more patient person,” she said. “It’s about staying calm under pressure and continuously striving for improvement.”
An Unexpected Encounter: The Black Squirrel
During her time on the course, she has had some unusual experiences, including the sighting of a black squirrel. This rare encounter adds to the unique and often surprising moments golf has brought into her life.
Competitive Edge in the Lima Junior Golf League
Competing in the Lima Junior Golf League has helped improve her game. Bree has earned 2nd team all-league honors in both her freshman and sophomore years and advanced to 1st team all-league during her senior year in the Central Buckeye Conference. Her score of 40 for 9 holes at Liberty Hills was a season best for 2023. She shot a season low round of 95 during the league tournament.
Equipped for Success
Stid’s golf bag is equipped with a Taylormade Stealth driver, Ping irons and hybrids, a Callaway 5 wood, and a Cobra putter. Each club plays a crucial role in her game, although her 7 iron and 5 wood have a mind of their own sometimes.
Joining Shawnee State University
The beautiful campus of Shawnee State University was a major factor in Stid’s decision to join the school. She is eager to represent the university on the golf course and compete at the collegiate level. She would like to thank the coaches for their patience through her selection process.
Dream Caddie: Happy Gilmore
When asked who she would choose as her dream caddie, Stid’s answer is both surprising and amusing—Happy Gilmore. The fictional character, known for his unconventional and humorous approach to golf, embodies a fun and relaxed attitude that Stid appreciates.
