Jessica Ng Shines as UBC Secures Eighth NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship

The University of British Columbia delivered a masterclass in control and consistency at the 30th Annual NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship, securing its eighth national title in dominant, wire-to-wire fashion at Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Leading the charge was Jessica Ng, whose standout performance proved pivotal in both the individual and team victories.
UBC wasted no time establishing its dominance. The Thunderbirds opened with a four-shot lead on Tuesday and only widened the gap as the week progressed. With team rounds of 288 on both Wednesday and Friday — their best scores of the tournament — the squad demonstrated the depth and precision that have become hallmarks of the program.
Ng quickly emerged as the individual player to watch. After overtaking the leaderboard midway through the event, she never relinquished her spot at the top. A composed and focused presence, she navigated the final 36 holes with a tactical approach that allowed her to withstand late pressure from SCAD Savannah’s Sharon Shan. Even with a 73 in the final round, Ng had built enough of a cushion through earlier rounds to clinch the title and become UBC’s second-ever individual national champion.
While Ng led the way, her teammates added key performances to solidify the team title. On Friday, Una Chou recorded the lowest round of the day with a 6-under 66, vaulting her into fourth place overall. Grace Bell provided a steady finish with an even-par round, narrowly missing the top 10 individually but helping lock in the team’s overall dominance.
Shan, who posted a tournament-best 65 on Monday, stayed close throughout the week and came within one stroke of Ng after Thursday’s round. Her final round, however, fell short of the needed pace, leaving her at 2-under and in second place. Lindsey Wilson’s Butpapaporn Sukterm completed the individual podium, finishing at even par — the only other competitor to do so.
UBC’s championship run overshadowed a fierce battle for the runner-up spot in the team standings. Keiser University narrowly edged out Marian University by one stroke, thanks to top-10 finishes from Carolin Alblas, Sophia Sindersberger, and Mohea Mansbendel. Marian’s Emma Weiler also tied for fifth to keep her team within striking distance until the final day.
Texas Wesleyan and SCAD Atlanta rounded out the top five, each with an individual finisher inside the top 10. Raeleigh Davidson (Texas Wesleyan) and Holly Lau (SCAD Atlanta) both tied for seventh at 8-over.
Beyond the competition, the NAIA recognized outstanding character and sportsmanship during the week, awarding the Character Act honors to Hannah Ullibari of The Master’s and Iona Pollitt of Tennessee Southern. Both competed as individual qualifiers.
The event concluded with the announcement of the All-Tournament Team performers: Jessica Ng, British Columbia, Sharon Shan, SCAD Savannah (Ga.), Butpapaporn Sukterm, Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), Una Chou, British Columbia, Carolin Alblas, Keiser (Fla.), Emma Weiler, Marian (Ind.), Sophia Sindersberger, Keiser (Fla.), Raeleigh Davidson, Texas Wesleyan, Mohea Mansbendel, Keiser (Fla.), Holly Lau, SCAD Atlanta (Ga.), Grace Bell, British Columbia, Kate Castle, Milligan (Tenn.), Ella Ahlqvist, Dalton State (Ga.), Maddi Kamas, Oklahoma City and Martha Sanchez, SCAD Atlanta (Ga.)
