From Curiosity to Captain: Olivia Reichardt’s Golf Journey

West Liberty Salem High School senior Olivia Reichardt never expected to fall in love with golf. A dedicated softball player, her curiosity was first piqued by teammates who spoke highly of their experiences on the course. Intrigued by their stories, she decided to give the sport a try—what began as a whim quickly turned into a three-year passion.

That passion has translated into steady growth and some impressive accomplishments. One of Olivia’s most memorable moments came last season, when her team placed third at sectionals, securing a coveted spot at districts. It was a moment of pride, not just for the team, but also for Olivia personally, as it marked how far she had come since picking up a golf club for the first time.

She’s continued to build on that success. With a lowest 9-hole score of 39 and an 18-hole best of 83, Olivia has proven she can compete with the best. Her accolades tell the story of her commitment: 2024 OHC 2nd Team, 2024 Team MVP, 2025 OHC 1st Team, and 2025 Captain.

Olivia enjoys the mental and individual challenges of golf, as well as the camaraderie of being part of a team. The sport has taught her how to balance those two roles—relying on herself in pressure moments while still contributing to a collective goal.

Her favorite place to play is Cherokee Hills in Bellefontaine, Ohio—a course that combines scenic views with strategic play. It’s not unusual to see deer crossing the fairways there, adding a touch of unexpected wildlife to her rounds.

While she doesn’t have an elaborate pre-match ritual, Olivia does have one consistent habit: starting her match with a Callaway 3 ball. A fan of both Ping and Callaway gear, she’s particular about the tools she uses but keeps the rest of her preparation relaxed.

Although she hasn’t played in any outside leagues, Olivia is keeping her options open when it comes to her future in the sport. She’s considering playing golf in college, though the final decision is still up in the air.

If given the choice of anyone to caddy for her, there’s no question—she’d choose her Grandpa Ellis. His presence would be more than just moral support; it would be a reminder of the personal connections that make sports meaningful.

From a casual curiosity to leading her high school team, Olivia Reichardt’s golf story is one of unexpected passion, steady growth, and exciting potential. Whether she continues in college or not, she’s left a lasting impression on the fairways at West Liberty Salem.
